"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men." 1 Corinthians 12:4-6.
Adapted from an unknown writer;
Once there were three trees in the forest discussing their hopes and dreams. The first dreamed of becoming a great treasure chest that would be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. The second longed to be used to build a mighty ship that would carry Kings and Queens to the four corners of the earth. The third desired to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest that it might point people to God in Heaven.
Alas the day came when all three trees were cut down. The first tree for a carpenter but his dream of treasure was destroyed as he was made into a simple feed manger. The second indeed went to a shipbuilder but became only a small fishing boat. The third tree was indeed forlorn as it was simply cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark.
Years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.
Then one day, a woman placed a special baby in the manger. The tree now could feel his importance in holding the greatest treasure of all. A group of men later got into the small fishing boat. A storm arose, but the men woke up a sleeping man who merely said "peace" and the storm stopped. The second tree now realized it carried the "King of Kings". Finally someone came and got the third tree to be drug through the streets of Jerusalem and serve as a cross for Jesus. It had indeed pointed people to the way home to God.
We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best. May we always be obedient and available to God's plan for us.
