LIGHT AND EASY
Christianity should be light and easy. Jesus said so. Many are reluctant to get involved with religion in general and Christianity in particular because they believe it is anything but "light and easy". Christianity appears to be a bunch of rules and obligations that will get in the way of how they want to live. “If it just didn't come with all that baggage.” To be sure, there can be a lot of baggage heaped upon someone new to Christ. Often, this baggage comes from other Christians who should know better; rules, traditions and expectations that can be so overwhelming, that we miss the warmth, beauty and simplicity of what Jesus taught. That is not to say that all those rules, traditions and expectations are in themselves bad. It’s just that Jesus taught us that a man's goodness comes from God’s Spirit working in the heart, from what he or she is led by God to do. And this takes time to learn and to develop. Anything good that we do is only worthwhile to God if it comes from the leading of the Holy Spirit. If it is only done to conform to someone else's "list", it is most definitely not pleasing to God. God knows our heart and patiently waits to fill it with His goodness.
Listen to the words of Jesus from Matthew 11:28-30: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
"Learn from me." Jesus says, "Learn from Me !" Sit at My feet. Soak up My word. What might seem hard to you now, I will make easy. What may seem heavy, I will make light. What may seem unpleasant, I will make joyful. Just come and be with Me; rest your soul and take it easy -- light and easy.
